A surgical technician assists surgeons and other medical staff in operating rooms during surgical procedures. Their main job is to setup the operating room prior to surgery and ensure that everything flows smoothly during surgery. Students must complete a surgical technician training program from an accredited school before they are eligible for a job as a surgical tech. Surgical Technician Pay
Like most occupations, pay is normally commensurate with education and experience. Surgical technician pay can also be affected by the cost of living in your area. However, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has compiled data that provides average surgical technician pay. On average, a surgical technician earns $39,920 per year, or about $19 per hour. This average is comparable to other technician occupations, such as dialysis technician ($38k), but is lower than other careers like dental hygienist ($68k).
